This was the very first vampire thriller! Pure innocence becomes the target of age-old evil. Virtuous Laura has grown up in a solitary castle and longs for a close friend. Her wish seems granted with the arrival of a beautiful and mysterious stranger named Carmilla. A friendship develops but the brooding mood and sexual overtones mar Laura's happiness. Will she escape with her life and spirit?

Megan Follows' brilliant reading perfectly evokes the dramatic atmosphere of this Gothic Victorian tale. This tale was the inspiration for Bram Stoker's Dracula!

The story itself is one I already know however the audible performance is less exciting! Megan Follows does not do it justice. It doesn’t flow well, unnecessary long pauses, a bit jumbled. I’d stick to reading it yourself.

Good story, poor audio

Great book, very atmospheric. I really enjoyed it. The narrator brought the story to life beautifully.

The narrator's voice was excellent for my taste. Good for long winter evening before bedtime. But the story, sometimes makes no sense. I know its a different century but they cannot make a simple connections between obvious happenings

Great narrator, story is strange

One of the unsung pioneers of the vampire genre, well worth reading. I love the atmospheric prose and the plot twists, classic and yet very imaginative. The reading is professional and enjoyable, and I enjoyed it even though I believe a British accent would add to the experience. I can't, however, award it five stars because the text is censored, which I find patronising and annoying. Stating that this is an unabridged version is untrue and misleading. My trust in Audible products is diminished by this.

Great story, but passages unnecesarily censored.

The narration was beautiful and the story was engaging. I just feel that it got a little confusing

Beautifully Narrated
