Thomas Kydd, a hero of Trafalgar, holds the glory of being Post-Captain of the 32-gun frigate, L'Aurore. A Caribbean posting seems a welcome respite for the war hero, but when more and more merchantmen begin vanishing from the sea, fear starts to spread. Kydd must embark on a dangerous game of espionage in order to destroy this new and terrible danger to the Empire.©2013 Julian Stockwin (P)2014 W.F. Excellent, apart from the narrator’s inability to pronounce ‘Lieutenant’ in the British style, regularly using ‘Lootenant’ rather than ‘Leftenant’! Became grating and irksome after a while.

Narrator reduces level of enjoyment

The Somerset v Stewart case (1772) established that any slave in England was legally free, the author should have researched this instead of going for a shock slavery story.

Tiresome ignorance

This series simply continues to deliver high quality entertainment. It remains full of thoroughly researched plots and information. Christian Rodska is still the perfect narrator for it and I even enjoyed the author's notes, especially the glossary!

Simply put this is a top quality series of historical naval fiction and the quality has been remarkably consistent from book one to this.

He's not Kydding!

Another great episode in the rise and rise of Thomas Kydd, brought alive with fantastic narration.

One of my favourite Kydd books so far! Multiple engaging threads woven together into a great story.
