From the best-selling author of the best-selling Psychic Surveys and This Haunted World series, comes a Christmas ghost story to chill your bones!

A renovation. In the countryside. Just over an hour's train ride from London.

An ideal family home. Sold unseen. At auction.

Married couple Al and Liz Greenaway love London, but when they discover an impressive country property for sale in need of some TLC, for the same price as their London flat, they decide to go for it. For them, life is all about reinventing themselves and keeping things fresh, and this house marks an exciting new chapter.

In the week running up to Christmas, it is Liz who finds herself at Carfax House, alone. Al's held up with work. No matter, there's plenty to occupy her before he arrives, getting it ready for the festive season. A fine house. Once. Solitary, romantic, isolated, and quiet. So quiet that, for the first time in years, Liz can hear her own thoughts as long buried memories emerge. And there's an echo in them, a whisper...

For someone else in the house, memories are emerging too.

I enjoyed this book. It's not a fright a minute but it's very immersive and you start to easily feel in the main character's shoes. Trigger Warning: It does have themes around mental health and suicide but it is sensitively and compassionately handled by the author . Despite it being somewhat bleak in parts, it was an atmospheric Christmas read.

Atmospheric and beautiful descriptions.

I’m not sure if this comes with a warning but near the end it has a topic some would find distressing. I found it hard myself but I felt the author did well. This is the first I’ve listened to this narrator and I ended up speeding her up. I found her a little childish sounding, but her other voices were very good.

Very difficult themes

The story is another fantastic book by this wonderful author. It’s spoiled by the voice of the narrator. She has a childish voice that makes a ghost story sound ridiculous. Also, she often leaves the last letter off a word, it’s incredibly annoying and grating. I’m only 15 chapters in but can’t listen to any more.

A wonderful story ruined

I love to listen to narrator Penny Scott Andrews which helped a lot as this book was so boring and goes nowhere. All the hype you lead up to leads to nothing . It could have been so much better.

Short listen book and goes nowhere
