Fleeing with only her bow, horse, enormous pet wolf, and the cryptic clues hidden in her mother's medicine journal, healer Meg Boswell gallops north toward freedom, running from the man who falsely accused her mother of witchcraft. Cursed with magical healing abilities, Meg knows that if she's captured, she will die like her mother - atop a blazing witch's pyre.

Winter winds rip across the Highlands, pressing Chief Caden Macbain forward in his desperate plan to save his clan. He's not above using an innocent woman to bargain for peace if it keeps his clan from starving. But Meg isn't who Caden thinks she is, and when she kills a man to save the clan, he must choose between duty and her life. For although he captured her to force a peace, Meg's strength and courage have captured Caden's heart.

Contains mature themes.

I thought I would listen to the complete series before leaving a review. I did enjoy it, although I purchased books 2.5 and 5 without checking out how long they were. They are very short and thought they could be half the price. Book 5 is reduced but not as much as I would have liked. having said that, I liked it very much and thought it could have been longer. as with all Heather's books, they are very enjoyable, and Timothy is brilliant as always.

I enjoyed the story, but felt that some of the issues which should have had a massive impact on the characters were simply dismissed. The story lost a lot of integrity for me from there, and the feelings between characters felt fake and shallow because of this. It was a shame because I really liked the main character and her backstory. I have read a lot by this author and she has always acknowledged conflict between characters well, and written satisfying, believable resolutions. This was sadly not one of them.

What a great story with interesting characters, heart felt situations and all with a flair of historical content.
I have also enjoyed listening to other series by Heather McCollum and narrated by Timothy Campbell. Top marks.

Great Storytelling

This was a wonderful love story with awesome character depictions and an exciting theme that permeated the entire plot throughout in such a natural way it didn’t feel at all far fetched. A strong female lead that grew into herself with the help of a supporting male lead that loved her for what she was, amazing writing and story development by this author. Totally going to look into more books by Heather.

Narration was great, not too much and not too little. The only thing I’m questioning a little might be the Scottish Gaelic pronunciation, but must confess I absolutely could be wrong since I’m not fluent. It just sounded a bit off to me from what Gaelic I do know but it flew by so fast I’d probably have to read it to determine for sure. 😅
In all other aspects a great listen that I truly recommend.

A great book with exciting subtle fantasy touch

I can’t remember the last book I read, that left my heart soaring. The ending! I’ve listened to many historical romances, but this is the only one that left me feeling such happiness. Heather McCollum is a true talent.
