The breathtaking sequel to the stunning By Ash, Oak and Thorn, from acclaimed nature writer and Costa Award-shortlisted novelist Melissa Harrison.

As autumn begins, Moss and friends travel to their former home in Ash Row to find the rare mortal child who can both see and talk to them.

The tiny beings know they should be brave and talk back - this is their chance to help reverse the fading of ancient Cumulus, who has now almost disappeared entirely.

But they soon realise fading is connected to their role in the world.... Can the Hidden Folk prove that guardians of the Wild World are needed after all?

A tale of disappearing wilderness that couldn't be more relevant in today's environmental crisis, brought to life for children by three funny, eternal tiny beings - the hidden folk.

A truly beautiful conclusion to Melissa Harrison’s adventures of the Hidden folk, brought to life perfectly by Sam Crerar’s performance. I was utterly transported while listening and am quite bereft to have reached the end. The atmosphere is sublime and enhanced wonderfully by the brilliant use of sound effects and music, a fantastic production all round that I thoroughly recommend!

Exquisite exploration of the wonders of the wild world!

Beautifully written, and full of adventures, excitement and acts of kindness, among the hidden folk and their friends, a vixen, starling, mouse, and blackbird.
These tales are mesmerizing, and I believe these are the best education for young children, read at school.
It teaches about nature, and how precious that part of our world is.
Far better to come from creating kinship, building small works of restored nature, and take care of it.

The present day Climate Change Report, showing up as a strong indoctrination within the school system, based on wrong conclusions, feeding only anxiety, is an example of weaponizing of guilt, killing individual initiative, ignoring the inspiration in children, found in the natural world coming from joy and reverence, not in the least the individual motivation that stems from a sense of wonder and sovereignty.

A tale about friendship and the practice of wisdom

This is the story of the hidden folks’ second journey, their adventures, the new people they meet and the discoveries they make about themselves & their destination. I liked that their quest evolved as they progressed, especially with the realisations towards the end of the book. The soundtrack includes different birdsong & sounds from nature at appropriate moments & music that provides reflective pauses. It becomes part of the story & is a clever aural version of book illustrations. I very much enjoyed this audible version & can imagine it becoming a favourite for long journeys & cosy afternoons.

An enchanting story with an equally enchanting & exquisite soundtrack

Accidentally listened to book 2 before book 1 so in that sense a little confusing. However, this is a brilliant book in the way it is read and written keeps your focus and promotes wanting to listen more than some of the monotone adult books.

Captivating even for adults!
