'The most astonishing piece of investigative journalism I have ever read' Reader review

On March 24, 2021, in the remote north of Mozambique, 500 ISIS militants attacked the small, paradise beach town of Palma - strategically unimportant but for vast offshore gas fields that had attracted $50 billion in foreign investment, including over £1 billion from the British government.

As the Islamists surged through town beheading civilians, a group of men, women and children - including 80 gas plant construction workers - barricaded themselves inside a hotel to await rescue. An oil and gas compound defended by attack helicopters and 1,000 soldiers was just minutes away. But help never came.

Five years on, Alex Perry's spell-binding, meticulous reconstruction unearths a hidden and unprecedented fiasco. Woven into his account is a search for the truth about how energy companies really make their vast profits.

His investigation takes him around the world, from Europe to the US, and back to Africa again, as he tracks down roughnecks, mercenaries, billionaires, and corporate spooks. As the revelations build and the lies multiply, Perry finds himself drawn into an exploding political scandal.

Propulsive, prophetic, and arriving at a time when energy companies imperil the planet, Blood Will Flow delivers a morality tale for the global economy.

Part a forensic examination of the appalling actions of Big Oil in Mozambique, part a breathless adventure story set in a terrorist insurgency most of the world never heard about, Blood Will Flow is a fantastic read or listen. It’s propelled by the force of Alex’s writing, his rage at the actions of a huge multinational and his humanity in the face of the needless deaths of so many people. His story deserves the widest possible hearing.

How Big Oil turned away while people were murdered at its gates.

Illuminating and frightening tale that has had little to no coverage. Brilliantly recounted by Perry.

Outstanding

Thoroughly enjoyed this book from start to finish. Alex’s thorough research and journalist approach to revealing the shocking truth about energy giant Total is ground breaking. A Must Read for all!

Gripping and devastating

A harrowing tale of the (continued) rape and pillage of Africa’s natural resources. If you want to understand why Islamic fundamentalism is rife, read this. An extraordinary tale expertly researched, written and read.

World class investigative journalism

I was reluctant to listen to this , perhaps the subject was too close to me as I knew Phil , we were close friends and shared many adventures across Africa , thank you Alex for respecting his memory, your characterisation of the man was close enough. The story is about greed and corruption and arrogance of big business lead by an overbearing tyrant , an attitude that seems to have filtered down to his management team at Afungi. Such a travesty that was barely a ripple in world media , well done to you for exposing this
