A nerve-shredding action thriller from the author of Redemption. Fast-paced and gripping, Black List will appeal to fans of David Baldacci, Lee Child and Vince Flynn.

With no money and no prospects, hacker Alex Yates's life is going nowhere until he is given a lucrative but dangerous offer – £100,000 to breach the Central Intelligence Agency's network and recover a file known as the ‘Black List’. At first reluctant, the disappearance of an old friend leaves Alex with no choice but to return to a world he'd sworn to leave behind. But before he can unlock the file’s secrets, he finds himself the target of a nationwide manhunt. Someone wants him out of the picture fast. Plunged into a deadly race against time, and wanted by police, intelligence operatives and a ruthless covert unit, Alex is left with no choice but to accept help from the violent and unpredictable woman who first hired him.©2015 Will Jordan (P)2020 W. Couldn't put it down. Another great story expertly narrated with Anna triumphing against the odds but as expected and Ryan Drake making an unexpected appearance at the end.

Having read the first three books, this is the one that had me hooked to the series. The introduction of a new character with no background in the agency world, makes the story far more relatable and brings fantastic human characteristics to one of the other main characters. Favourite of the series so far by a mile - looking forward to book 5

Best of the series so far

For those unfamiliar with the law of Star Trek movies, every second one has something special that sets them apart from their brethren; this is proving to be the case with the Ryan Drake series.
You have to admire a writer who spends three books establishing great characters, fleshes them out, even kills off some (still not quite over Keegan), then, and I cannot believe I’m using this expression, subverts your expectations.
I really don’t want to spoil anything except to say this is a cracker, if you’ve been following the book series in order then you’re in for a surprise, the author goes completely rogue; well worth a listen.
The narrator, Sam Devereaux, does an admirable job of generating the characters through accents whilst hitting the story beats. He has a pleasing voice that is easy to listen to and keeps you engaged with the plot.

Pretty enjoyable overall with a solid performance from the narrator. Let's be honest, this is not a "Ryan Drake" book as he's barely in it. For all that, a decent range of characters with good motivations and decent story arcs although I found the principle "baddy" a bit two dimensional.
As commented elsewhere, perhaps some of the dialogue could've done with a bit more of a polish although the pacing was excellent and enough twists and turns in there to keep things interesting.
As someone pretty techie myself, the technology aspects to the story by and large made sense and were believable-ish, which is a rare thing!

Enjoyed it but not really a Ryan Drake story

Massive drop off from the previous books, Story is rubbish so are most the characters.
