I was born to kill the emperor, but first, I must marry him.

I trained as an assassin while my twin sister trained to be the empress. My life will be forfeit once I murder the most powerful man on the continent, but I have no choice. If I fail, the Imperium will consume our nation and anyone who rises against them.

Too soon, we walk into the glittering imperial court, each step taking us closer to the dangerous man on the black throne, my sister’s future husband, the newly crowned Emperor of the Southern Imperium. Emperor Tallu has more spies than fish in the sea. He poisoned his own father to secure the golden crown.

When his sharp eyes skim over us, they don’t catch on my sister. They land on me, his killer.

“I choose you, Prince Airón of the Northern Kingdom. You will be my consort.” Tallu’s smile is mirthless. “Or I will reduce your entire nation to ashes.”

Betrothed to the Emperor ends with more story to tell, but the characters end on a HFN.

If you enjoy books with fleshed-out plots & characters, magical powers, mythical creatures, and a game of trust between two people of different backgrounds this book is for you.
In this book we learn about Airon and his mission to assassinate the Emperor Tallu while figuring out his own feelings & challenging his beliefs.
I enjoyed the various ways in which the author continues to surprise us with unexpected twists & engages the reader by making us ask more and more questions as the plot progresses.

The slow building of the relationship between the two main characters are worth the wait & anticipation as it allows us to appreciate the complexities of their union. I'd describe this book as a fantasy book with a side of romance and has a very well thought out plot & world building.

Great book, great narrator. Genuinely cannot wait for the next installment!

Great character & world building. Can't wait for book 2!

I must say this book has a lot going on… and it ties everything together perfectly…intriguing in its political side, emotional side and the pacing is good, though I hear it with 1,3 speed, but I do that with all books… excited to hear the next
