A fascinating portrayal of the German experience during the Second World War told through the eyes of the citizens of Berlin

While our understanding of the Holocaust is well developed, we know little about everyday life in Nazi Germany. In this vivid and important study Roger Moorhouse portrays the German experience of the Second World War from the viewpoint of the capital's streets and homes, raising issues of consent and dissent, morality and authority and charting the violent humbling of a once-proud metropolis.©2010 Roger Moorhouse (P)2012 W F Howes Ltd Europe Germany Military World Savaş Soykırım Emperyalizm Sosyalizm

Tracking the time line was tricky as the narrative leaps back at places. While it does describe life in Berlin over the 2nd WWar period, I was expecting more coverage on working class peoples day to day dealings with the regime. There are mentions but seemed glossed over. May need to listen again sometime.

Worthy listen/read.

This part chronological and part Subject related history book brings civilian perspective to the conflict. the contradictions in what the leadership told ordinary people for example regarding the air raids is illuminating.
