In my mind, I have romanticized getting off the grid, picturing a cozy cabin in the woods, sitting by a roaring fire with my dog at my side. This book will pop that bubble (in a good way) with the realism of independent living. The author first tackles some stereotypes, such as that only weird, anti-social people do this sort of thing. Then, he goes into what kind of person is likely to succeed. In fact, there is a quiz you can take to see if you're the type! There is a ton of very practical advice covered on every topic of off-grid living you can think of, like how to heat your home, how to build a temporary shelter, or how to purify water for drinking. And each one has multiple options with pros and cons for each option. If you are considering a future off the grid, this book will give you a realistic picture of what it will take.

This audiobook was a wake-up call. I loved the idea of off-grid living… until I realized what it actually takes. It’s not impossible—but it’s not Pinterest-pretty either. The skills, the prep, the mindset—it’s all here. If you’re dreaming of homesteading, listen first. Then ask yourself: am I really ready?

I remember a time I was living off the grid because I was not sure if I was living healthy if I kept eating junk food. I learned from the author that my wife and I have the power to live away from stress in the modern world. If I am lucky to buy a house, I have what it takes. I sometimes question my plans to see if I can live off the grid. You and your family can come up with ideas for a self-sustaining lifestyle. I usually watch YouTube videos to learn new concepts and prevent them from repeating. The narration is clear, and I recommend people get this book to discover new ideas to improve their lifestyle.
