We start with a real comparison between Judaism and Christianity through the Sermon on the Mount, then work through Israel’s “city on a hill” framing, early religious movements, and why expertise in dead languages changes how you read a 2,000-year-old claim. The centerpiece is Wes’s response to Ammon Hillman’s theory — the one argued on the Danny Jones Podcast — that early Christianity has roots in psychedelic mushroom cults. Wes walks through why he thinks that argument confuses correlation with causation (the “Texas sharpshooter” problem) and what the actual linguistic and historical evidence supports instead. From there we get into Bible translation differences, including the work Wes does cataloguing them on his own site, then spend real time in the stranger corners of the text: the Book of Enoch, how angels and cherubim are actually described (not the pop-culture version), the Nephilim, and why the Ethiopian Orthodox Bible kept books that didn’t make it into most Western canons. This is a long-form discussion for people who want the actual textual and historical argument, not just the viral soundbite version. ***TIMESTAMPS*** 00:00 - Judaism compared to Christianity (Sermon on the Mount) & Trans-Continental Religion 10:22 - Israel (City on a Hill) & Expertise on Dead Languages & Early Religions 21:16 - Texas Sharpshooter Philosophy (Correlation vs Causation) & Jesus Mysticism 24:25 - Bible Translations & Wes’ Website Translations & Differences of Bibles 36:35 - Danny Jones Podcast (Ammon Hillman Response) 55:50 - Book of Enoch 1:03:15 - How Angels, Cherubim, Or ACTUALLY Portrayed & Nephilim Explained & Ethiopian Bible Learn more about your ad choices.
