There are certain memories that stay with a person for a lifetime. For me, many of those memories were born in the quiet simplicity of our family camping trips. We didnt have much when I was young, but we had the outdoors, a canvas tent, and the steady comfort of a glowing campfire. Those nights beneath the stars shaped me more than I ever realized at the time.Whenever we could spare a few extra dollars, we would rent a small rowboat. I loved drifting toward the hidden corners of the lake, where the lily pads grew thick and the world felt hushed and enchanted. It was a secret place, a magical place, and it settled deep into my heart. Even now, all these years later, I can still feel the cool air on my face and hear the soft dip of the oars.As life went on and I had a family of my own, we found ourselves camping too partly because it was all we could afford, and partly because it felt right. Those were the years when I first began to write. I would sit by the fire with a notebook on my lap, letting old memories rise like sparks from the flames. Sometimes I sketched. Mostly, I wrote. The stories came one after another, as if they had been waiting patiently for me to finally listen.The Jonathan stories.The other short tales.And Beneath the Lily Pads, which always felt like the most intricate of them all.For a long time, everything I wrote was tucked away saved for later, as people often say. But years passed, and later finally arrived. In my older age, with time at last on my side, I decided it was time to gather those pieces and give them the care they deserved. Im grateful I kept every note, every scrap, every half-formed idea.This book is one of those pieces brought back to life.So, if you have a little time, I invite you to step into these pages with me.
