Knowing what you want to say is not the same as being able to say it when the pressure is on. You may rehearse the conversation in your head, then soften the request, apologize for a reasonable boundary, accept work you cannot realistically complete, or think of the right response after the meeting ends.

Assertive communication is not about becoming aggressive. It is about expressing what you need with clarity, composure, and respect.

Assertive Communication: The 30-Day Speak-Up Method turns that skill into a structured daily practice. Through concise lessons, realistic workplace examples, guided exercises, and field challenges, you will learn the Five-Move Speak-Up Sequence: Prepare, State, Ask, Hold, and Close.

This standalone second volume in The 30-Day Workplace Communication Series helps you move from speaking clearly to speaking up when it matters.

Over 30 focused days, you will learn how to:

  • Make clear requests without burying the point in apologies or explanations
  • Say no and set boundaries you can consistently maintain
  • Renegotiate workloads, deadlines, and expectations professionally
  • Disagree, give feedback, and receive criticism without escalating
  • Address interruptions, colleagues taking credit, client pressure, and difficult manager conversations
  • Stay composed during high-pressure discussions and confirm the next step

Weekly checkpoints, progress scoring, and a final 30-60-90 maintenance plan help you turn isolated techniques into a repeatable communication practice.

Written for professionals, team members, and new managers who are ready to replace silence, hedging, or overexplaining with direct and respectful communication.

Begin the 30-day method and practice saying what needs to be said, clearly and respectfully, while the conversation is still happening.

This was a helpful read for anyone who wants to express themselves more clearly and confidently. It is important to learn to speak up for yourself while still respecting others feelings. The topic feels practical and relatable especially for those of us who sometimes struggle to set boundaries or say no without feeling guilty. It is a good reminder that honest communication can strengthen relationships. This was an interesting read for me.

Some of the hardest conversations are the ones where you know what you want to say but struggle to get the words out. I liked how this book focuses on speaking up without coming across as rude or aggressive. The Five Move Speak Up Sequence gives readers a clear way to prepare for difficult conversations, state what they need, and agree on the next step. I also found the workplace examples relatable, especially the situations involving saying no, handling extra work, and dealing with interruptions or criticism.

This book is a practical and informative guide for anyone who struggles to speak up, set boundaries, or express their thoughts confidently in the workplace. I found the message particularly relatable because many people know what they want to say but struggle to find the words when faced with pressure, difficult conversations, or uncomfortable situations. The five move speak up sequence prepare, state, ask, hold, and close provides a straightforward approach to handling these moments without becoming aggressive or disrespectful. Reminders to maintain tone even when you are responding to opposition to remain calm. I also like that the book goes beyond general advice by offering daily lessons, realistic workplace examples, guided exercises, and weekly progress checks, to help readers put what they learn into practice. This is a useful resource for anyone who wants to stop second guessing themselves, communicate more directly, and develop the confidence to speak up while still remaining professional and respectful. The only thing I would change for the audio would be the constant repetition for pointers of reminding you to score or track your progress.
