The final conflict draws nigh as demonic, necromantic, and human forces collide, and the fate of civilization hangs in the balance....

With the Order knights of Branil’s Burg defeated, the victorious Niyandrian rebels bend the knee to Anskar, their Melesh-Eloni—“godling”—and the true heir to the throne.

But despite their victory, time is running out. Anskar’s powers are unpredictable, and to some, terrifying. Already, the mainlanders plan vengeance: An armada is being prepared, not for colonization this time, but for slaughter.

And the ever-looming spirit of Queen Talia still seeks to return from the dead to begin a new necromantic empire, with her as the ever-living ruler.

As war looms, and the people of Niyas face certain destruction, Anskar’s heritage of demon blood and necromancy swells within him. But there are forces greater even than those of the sorcerous tides.... Soon he will wield enough power to save a civilization or doom an entire world.

This is the final book in the Necromancer’s Key series.

Very good ending to a great series, these books have been a great listen whilst out runnjng several times a week. The overall structure of the world and approach to magic has been well thought out and provides a lot of depth for follow on series. The pacing of the narration has been easy to listen to but the story pacing itself felt a little rushed near the end,

Closure to a good series.

It’s been really good to see the development of both this series and Hogan as a writer. Ascension is a great, satisfying and worthy ending to Hogan’s best work so far.

Hogan’s best

The fight s drag on and on and the conclusion hardly moves the story at all. New characters and races are introduced unnecessarily for no real purpose at least not in this story. Ansgaar is a little less annoying than in the rest of the series. The story had great potential but to me it seems poorly mapped out and things are happening without any apparent reason.
