Explore the Trial of Socrates: A Classic Battle for Philosophy and Justice in the “Apology by Plato”
Plato takes us on a front-row seat as Socrates stands before the Athenian court charged with corrupting the youth and impiety. This edition features:
- His early years.
- Plato's relationship with Socrates and their travels.
- The renowned Academy at Athens.
- His enduring legacy.
Socrates begins his defense by addressing the jury with his usual straightforwardness and honesty, rejecting the notion that he has intentionally harmed anyone or disrespected the gods.
He argues that his actions are guided by a divine inner voice, which he believes is a source of his wisdom and guidance. Socrates also discusses his method of questioning and challenging accepted beliefs, which he claims is aimed at improving intellectual understanding, encouraging critical thinking, and promoting self-examination.
“Apology by Plato" is a foundational text in Western philosophy, showcasing Socrates’ commitment to his principles and his unique approach to questioning and dialogue. It invites listeners to reflect on the need for justice, the power of virtue, and the role of the philosopher in society.
