Cassie Forrest could almost believe life at Kingdom Come Farm is perfect, with Adrian and her friends at her side and spring on the way. The spring thaw also means millions of defrosting zombies, however, and if the past year has taught her anything, it's that life in this new world is highly imperfect.

When Safe Zones throughout the country begin to disappear and the zombies at the fences grow in number, Cassie clings to the hope that if she has the people she loves most, it will be all right. But the highly imperfect world makes only one guarantee - zombies never die, never stop, and are never satiated.

Julia Whelan is a good narrator- she gets better with the male voices as the novel goes on.

Unlike the City series, this is a better blend of action and domesticity, but the fact that most people don't act to protect themselves is unrealistic, as is the insistence on treating under-18s as children. In the event of a zombie apocalypse, everyone except toddlers and babies would be working and learning how to survive! Similarly, no one would be babysitting Bits and tolerating temper tantrums!

On a related note, I am not sure why everyone is planting and canning when they know huge herds are sweeping northwards!

Apart from these quibbles, the willingness to kill off major characters makes a welcome change from similar novels. Cassie is also a more developed and sympathetic character than Eric and Sylvie in the City series. Penny is whiny and pathetic but doesn't make many appearances in the main plot.

I am not expecting any major surprises in the last novel of the series, but am sufficiently invested to spend a credit!

Much Better Than The City Series

Everyone has that slightly guilty pleasure...and this is mine. I love post-apocalyptic stuff, and while this has a little too much teen girl angst it's well balanced with some incredible story.

If you thought game of thrones was one to kill of characters, you've read nothing yet! Really brings that "no one is safe" feeling home. You wont be disappointed.

A must if you read the first
