The first edge-of-your-seat novel from the million-selling Girl in the Box series by Robert J. Crane.

Locked away in her own home for 12 years by a mother hiding dark secrets, 17-year-old Sienna Nealon has never known the outside world. That changes when she wakes to two intruders in her house, forcing her to break every rule she's lived by. Trained in brutal self-defense and sensing a strange power stirring inside her, Sienna fights back with raw fury, smashing through the door into a blinding, frozen reality she's only glimpsed from behind barred windows. But freedom comes at a cost: bullets, betrayal, and a truth that could unravel everything.

Now on the run from a shadowy government agency and a killer obsessed with her emerging abilities, Sienna wrestles isolation, sarcasm, and a hunger she can't control. In this fast-paced urban fantasy thriller, ancient myths collide with modern nightmares in a world of superhumans.

Listeners call it "a thrill ride with a kick-butt heroine" and praise the "mix of mystery, romance, and edge-of-your-seat action that hooks you like The Hunger Games." If you love Jim Butcher's snarky grit or X-Men-style powers, this million-copy series starter will keep you up listening all night.

Very good.. Not a long book but engrossing. It was a complete surprise to me and not at all what I expected. It does read more as an introduction though, not a novel. I will be reading the next in the series to see how the story enfolds.

What did you like best about this story?

I've read the girl in the box series and loved it, I'm so glad there's an audio version, it's well read too, I think Annie has got the right voice and attitude for Sienna. Can't wait for the whole series to be on audio! As well as the 'Out of the Box' sequel series.

I'm really glad this is on audible!

I loved every minute of this book and found it hard to put it down. The ending was well worth waiting for. I found myself drawn into this world of supernatural powers. Only wanting more at the stories end. The next book in the series is a welcoming thought. It is indeed one of the best books I've read this year and I'd widely recommend it to anyone looking for a good read.

Addictive from start to finish.

I enjoyed the story but you can tell it’s his first book and I hope he has improved. However the experience was marred by the terrible narration. It was monotone and lacked any emotion. It was flat I almost gave up, but didn’t because it was short. And the accents, don’t get me started on the terrible accents. How he signed off on the narrator, I have no idea!

Okay X-men style fiction - terrible narration
