Set in a kingdom where danger lurks beneath the sea, mermaids seek vengeance with song, and magic is a choice

She will reign.

As princess of the island kingdom Visidia, Amora Montara has spent her entire life training to be High Animancer - the master of souls. The rest of the realm can choose their magic, but for Amora, it's never been a choice. To secure her place as heir to the throne, she must prove her mastery of the monarchy's dangerous soul magic.

When her demonstration goes awry, Amora is forced to flee. She strikes a deal with Bastian, a mysterious pirate: He will help her prove she's fit to rule, if she will help him reclaim his stolen magic.

But sailing the kingdom holds more wonder - and more peril - than Amora anticipated. A destructive new magic is on the rise, and if Amora is to conquer it, she will need to face legendary monsters, cross paths with vengeful mermaids, and deal with a stow-away she never expected - or risk the fate of Visidia and lose the crown forever.

I am the right choice. The only choice. And I will protect my kingdom.

This ended up being surprisingly good, despite being a bit too slow paced in parts. I really like how great the bonds between the main 4 characters progress throughout the whole story. I definately recommend All The Stars and The Teeth.

Surprisingly good

Really enjoyed the world building but found the narrator to be overly dramatic when not needed and had poor accents when other characters were speaking which took me out of the story

Another great book by Adalyn Grace and well read. I find her books just carry me away to another world, they are magical and absorbing, just what you want, a bit of escapism.

Lovely Imagination

Narration was good.

The premise is interesting but I didn't think it was gripping enough and it sort of fell flat. There was a bit of repetition, I get the importance of not using two magic but it got to a point where every few chapters I am being reminded by the female protagonist that it is wrong, it gets a bit repetitive. The supporting characters are fab and I wish they were the lead as I personally didn't really root for Amora. shame as I loved the other books by the author and her female protagonists are so amazing.

Not bad but not great.
