This is Going to Hurt was the publishing phenomenon of the century, read by many millions, loved by at least fifty of them, and adapted into a major TV series. But it was only part of the story.

By turns hilarious, heartbreaking and humbling, Undoctored is about what happens when a doctor hangs up his scrubs, but medicine refuses to let go of him.

It's about an extraordinary medical school education.
It's about opening old wounds and examining the present-day scars.
It's about hospital admissions and personal ones.
It's about blowing up your life and stitching it back together.
It's about being a doctor and being a patient.
It's about 300 pages long.

Undoctored is Adam Kay's funniest and most moving book yet - an astonishing portrait of a life in and out of medicine, from one of Britain's finest storytellers.

This unabridged audio download, narrated by the author, features extra diary entries recorded in audio for the first time, and an audiobook exclusive interview with bestselling author and broadcaster The Reverend Richard Coles. I would recommend anyone working in health, care, education, government or perhaps anywhere to listen to this book. The author is vulnerably honest about toxic cultures within our society that need to be recognised and addressed. Adam writes about a whole range of experiences within his life, sometimes it’s harrowing, sometimes it’s hilarious but a very interesting, tear inducing, laugh provoking listen.

A whole range of emotions, brilliant

What I’d hoped for and expected from Adam Kay,unflinching honesty and black humour.I could have done without Richard Coles. Is there no escaping the man?

Unfiltered memoir

I really enjoyed this book. Except that enjoy isn’t really the right word. It made me laugh out loud. It made me messy cry. It made me want to hug a doctor. Painful and enlightening and revealing and honest. Oh, and funny. I’m pleased that Adam Kay has revealed the NHS’s lack of time and funding to help their staff cope but it’s heartbreaking that someone has had to. I’m pleased that he has also shone a light on men’s mental health too. Hopefully someone reading it will feel able to ask for help with their mental health because of it. Hopefully someone else reading it will be jolted into going to A&E rather than ignoring their physical health! I also hope that it’s been cathartic to write.

As good as I’d hoped. I thoroughly enjoyed this book.

Adam tells you how it is. It's not nice to hear because we do expect our clinicians to be machines and or made of granite. However medicine and the public's perception of it needs to change if we have any hope of saving the NHS. Adam is the reluctant vanguard of this change - I hope the Royal colleges are listening... ps I've worked in the NHS for 33 years , and yes it is currently on a "life support machine".

Brutally honest. But True.

I really enjoyed this book, I thought it was raw and honest. Beautifully read by Adam.
