In early summer 1982 - winter in the South Atlantic - Argentina's military junta invades the Falklands. Within days, a Royal Navy Task Force is assembled and dispatched. This is the story of D Squadron, 22 SAS, commanded by Cedric Delves.

The relentless tempo of events defies belief. Raging seas, inhospitable glaciers, hurricane-force winds, helicopter crashes, raids behind enemy lines - the Squadron prevailed against them all, but the cost was high. Holding fast to their humanity, D Squadron's fighters were there at the start and end of the Falklands War. Theirs was the first Union Jack raised over Government House in Stanley.

Across an Angry Sea is a chronicle of daring, skill and steadfastness among a tight-knit band of brothers; of learning fast, fighting hard and winning through.

Having served on HMS Yarmouth during the Falklands war and returning with shipmates in 2016 and finally being able to step foot on the island's I was intrigued to find out special forces involvement in the war. I have always held SAS\SBS in awe and nothing has changed. A very well written account of the time which tied in well with my knowledge of the Royal Navy side of the operation.

Excellent

I liked the book and as a book I recommend it .
I am ex military and found it very frustrating to have service acronyms consistently spelled out, ruining the timbre of presentation already spoiled by the staccato and punctuation ignoring reader.
It is fine to spell out CASEVAC the first time but after that it’s just Casevac as a word , not C. A. S. E. V. A. C it’s Sitrep not S. I. T. R. E. P

I did listen to the end and in some parts, where there were no acronyms to spell out and the reader dropped whatever he feels is the style he should use , it was possible to feel the action and events . Sadly all too few times .

A good book spoiled by staccato presentation

In the audiobook version, all the acronyms are read out letter by letter, rendering it hard for an audio listener to understand. Examples being CASEVAC, SITREP, TACSAT. It would be an much easier listen if they were read as they are spoken - ‘sitrep’ and so on. Other than that, narration was very good.

Acronyms read out in full

To listen to a true account of a military nature, the teller usual forgets to mention their short commings. However in this account no such thing. if you have been a soldier you know that the mundain day by day even in a conflict exist. A story that enfolds you in time and then.

a true step by step account warts and all

whilst the story is great, and a fascinating part of our history he reads it like a WW1 field Marshall. very very hard to listen to.
