"A Wrinkle in Time is one of my favorite books of all time. I've read it so often, I know it by heart." —Meg Cabot

This audiobook includes an introduction read by the film director Ava DuVernay, a foreword read by the author, and an afterword read by Madeleine L’Engle’s granddaughter Charlotte Jones Voiklis.

Late one night, three otherworldly creatures appear and sweep Meg Murry, her brother Charles Wallace, and their friend Calvin O'Keefe away on a mission to save Mr. Murry, who has gone missing while doing top-secret work for the government. They travel via tesseract--a wrinkle that transports one across space and time--to the planet Camazotz, where Mr. Murry is being held captive. There they discover a dark force that threatens not only Mr. Murry but the safety of the whole universe.

A Wrinkle in Time is the first book in Madeleine L’Engle’s Time Quintet, followed by A Wind in the Door, A Swiftly Tilting Planet, Many Waters, and An Acceptable Time.

I know this book has a lot of history and it is easy to see why it resonates so strongly with some people, but not with me. It is a great kids book and has many rewarding features . It has aged very well indeed (1962) which shows how great it is, and it may be that its age is what cant hook me now I read it for the first time now (2018). Lovely characters and I wish this was a book that I had read to my kids when they were young. They got Charlotte and Jonathan Livingstone instead.

Not truly special, but it is a great kids book.

its a long time since I was a young adult but I did enjoy this book. its not in the harry potter or the secrets of the immortal Nicholas flamel series league but is a good introduction into the sci fi/ fantasy genre leading onto the great writers - Arthur c clark, Asimov, neil gaiman, terry pratchet.and phllip pullman
fast paced, good characterisation, a little scary, a happy ending what more could you ask for.
the narrator at times seemed to be a little stilted but acted the parts well.

sci fi for the young adult.

I bought this book in 1966 when I had just begun High School, and it has remained a favourite of mine for years. The story is a lovely tale about an average American family with highly intelligent parents, and two of their four children unusual and intelligent in their own special way. When their father disappears without explanation the two unusual children find themselves in the middle of a science fiction adventure to discover where their father is and how to get him and themselves safely home. They discover with the help of 3 ladies how to travel through space and time and to rescue their father from a strange planet. Their discoveries also help them learn a lot about themselves and how to cope better with life when they return to Earth. To say anymore would spoil the story, and I deliberately have not been to see the film recently made of this book, mainly because the 3 ladies who help them bear no resemblance to those in the book. The 3 ladies in the book for me were part of the reason for reading on as they were so strange, and almost believable.

Early Sci Fi for children

This book started well for me, story and character building were captivating. However, I felt it weakened towards the end and didn't have the climax early build up indicated it would have.

I'm not saying it isn't worth a listen as it is but I wouldn't say it's brilliant and am not in a rush to read again. Perhaps what was ahead of it's time is no longer as intriguing to modern day reader/listener.

Good but not the Great I was expecting

It is a beautiful play of words, it's story is of mind and love, of emotions and humanity, to not understand, is to dismiss, because it's flow is nit based in mundane story telling, asking the reader to free themselves to the telling and expectation of what a tale should be. To paraphrase, we are given shape to expand, to grow in. You may not free your mind, but you may just free your spirit.
