This place is a crime that can't be solved. And that's why we love it.

LA is a brutal, burning city. It is America with nowhere to run. Each night Jake Deal captures it on a livestream to his blood-hungry subscribers. Above board, Doug Gibson is a street lawyer trying to fix the system one case at a time. Underground, Kara Delgado is working for a private concierge company - a make-a-wish foundation for the terminally rich.

When Kara's best friend Phoebe goes missing, she soon finds herself in the worlds of both Jake and Doug. Will the remaining humanity of this fragile team kill them all or expose one enormous, unspeakable crime?

Listening to this story unfold, we all know who the people are who inspired some of the characters. The illusion of glamous LA is well and truly shattered. Every character is morally gray, and it was hard for me to root for any of them...But Jake, Kara, and Gibson decided on the greater good. This will make a fantastic movie one day!

Graphic and unputdownable

Great tale. Reminiscent of James Ellroy with a smattering of Thomas Harris
Three differing and talented voice actors playing the three major roles works a treat, as the two in the preceding novel did.

Excellent follow up/companion to ‘Everybody knows’

Jordan Harper could well be the new James Ellroy. The violence is visceral and heavy, but never mindless. This is an angry critique of American power structures and systemic inequality. If you have the stomach for a raw, unsettling, pacy descent into the dark heart of Hollywood, A Violent Masterpiece is an unforgettable ride. It is angry, ambitious, and gripping.

Reads like literary noir fiction for the first third before slowly drifting into melodrama & a very unnecessary romance. The ending is just silly. Undermines all the main characters & dilutes the sting of the original set up with outlandishly bad plotting.

Great start, middling middle, messy end

Jordan Harper is the best crime writer working in the US today. A Violent Masterpiece revisits the world he created in Everyone Knows but it digs even deeper into Hollywood’s dark underbelly

Harper gets better and better
