New York Times and USA Today Bestseller

A temporary engagement, a lifetime in the making . . .

After years of fending for herself, Kate Taylor found friendship and acceptance in Spindle Cove—but she never stopped yearning for love. The very last place she'd look for it is in the arms of Corporal Thorne. The militia commander is as stone cold as he is brutally handsome. But when mysterious strangers come searching for Kate, Thorne steps forward as her fiancé. He claims to have only Kate's safety in mind. So why is there smoldering passion in his kiss?

Long ago, Samuel Thorne devoted his life to guarding Kate's happiness. He wants what's best for her, and he knows it's not marriage to a man like him. To outlast their temporary engagement, he must keep his hands off her tempting body and lock her warm smiles out of his withered heart. It's the toughest battle of this hardened warrior's life . . . and the first he seems destined to lose.

A continuation of the Spinster Cove series and I think my favourite one so far, although I did love Colin & Minerva's story.
Kate & Thorne are a great couple and their story was very interesting and held my attention throughout. The sudden appearance of the new family holidaying in the Cove could have been jarring to the story but after initial doubts I thought they worked rather well.
I've thoroughly enjoyed this series.

Loved this couple

I loved Samuel and his dreadful but fascinating past. He didn’t let Katie down at any point but tried to do the best thing for her. The new family were interesting and I’d love to hear what happens to them. I’ve listened to all the Spindle Cove books and am now coming back for a second listen.
I love all the very large virile male heroes in this series!

A darker but fascinating story

really liked this as it had some wonderful moments and was very funny. Gave up at the end because they male lead was in a self hating spiral and I stopped sympathising with him but if you like that sort of plot twist you will def love this book!

gave up at the end but was a great story up until then!
