In 2012, Mike and Christine Hawker disappeared. Vanished without a trace. Christine while making breakfast for the children, Mike, less than two hours later. They were never seen again.

Described by all who knew them as the perfect family, the Hawkers were devoted to each other and had no known personal or financial issues. So why disappear?

Mike Hawker’s body is discovered twelve years later, and DCI Meredith’s cold case review team take on the case. But Meredith is on the other side of the world trying to save his marriage to Patsy Hodge, and with no leads, old or new, to work with, the team wonder if they should prepare themselves for failure.

As they piece together the Hawkers’ final months, Meredith suggests he may retire to New Zealand, and the future of the CCRT is, once again, hanging in the balance.

Do long hidden secrets in the Hawkers’ extended family hold the key? Or did jealousy ultimately cause the demise of the perfect couple?

I enjoyed this story. Nice, easy listening murder mystery. The cold case review team have another murder to solve and must get on with it, without Meredith and Hodge. They are on the other side of the world trying to fix things. I thought Lee Beddow had good pace in this story and helped keep the characters realistic. Good plot with funny moments to break up the serious nature. Well done MK Turner on another instalment of Meredith and Hodge.

Another good Meredith and Hodge
