A brilliant new crime novel from the beloved, bestselling, and award-winning master of the genre - and Joe Pike's most perilous case to date.

Joe Pike didn't expect to rescue a woman that day. He went to the bank same as anyone goes to the bank, and returned to his Jeep. So when Isabel Roland, the lonely young teller who helped him, steps out of the bank on her way to lunch, Joe is on hand when two men abduct her. Joe chases them down, and the two men are arrested. But instead of putting the drama to rest, the arrests are only the beginning of the trouble for Joe and Izzy.

After posting bail, the two abductors are murdered and Izzy disappears. Pike calls on his friend, Elvis Cole, to help learn the truth. What Elvis uncovers is a twisted family story that involves corporate whistleblowing, huge amounts of cash, the Witness Relocation Program, and a long line of lies. But what of all that did Izzy know? Is she a perpetrator or a victim? And how far will Joe go to find out?

I always loved Joe Pike... the dark, mysterious, tattooed hero of this story reinforces at every turn, Robert Crais as a classic story teller. To be honest, though, I'd read Robert Crais.if he wrote cereal boxes!

another triumph

Excellent story with plenty of the usual Crais detail. Great to hear, at last, what Joe Pike sounds like. Very well narrated by Luke Daniels.

Cole & Pike ride again!

First time Ive listened to an Elvis snd Pike novel, but read several. This one doesnt dissapoint and is packed with gritty tough guys and damsels in distress. Recently the mysterious Pike has taken the forefront of the novels which is a shame because it means less of Elvis the self proclaimed World's Greatest Detective wise cracking his way through an investigation and more Tour de Force as Pike stalks his prey like a panther stalks a piglet. You just know the bad guys are in trouble.
Great narration. Getting Pike right is a task. But the menace is apparent.. I loved it. Its not going to change the way you feel about the World but it will take you on a twisty L A adventure for a few hours. Its got witness protection, dodgy pharma companies, kidnappings, cowboy assassins and a sinister mastermind, is it all too much for our heros? Give it a try!

Hard boiled thrill ride
