Detective Jo Shaw has it all worked out. She’s good at her job, she has loads of mates, and she likes being single. She doesn’t need complications, but an emergency call to the stabbing of a young woman brings plenty of those. Jo has to risk her career to save the woman’s life, and a bad night gets worse when the trauma surgeon turns out to be Isla Munro, Jo’s only real love, who walked out on her 15 years ago and never came back.

With the victim’s children missing and the husband the prime suspect, Jo’s investigation is stonewalled by a community living in fear. As one dead end leads to another, she and Isla are forced to put their differences aside and work together. But the case is far more dangerous than Jo realizes, and her determination to sort the truth from the lies may put her own life on the line.

To have Cari writing the story and Nicky bringing the characters to life you are on to a firm winner.

what happens when two characters meet up after 15 years working on the same case. Jo from the North and isla from Scotland and Jo's sidekick Sully. This story has plenty of humour, sweets and a very good plot line. you've got to read it I've listened to it 4 times already.

what a Combination

Cari has a knack of taking you on a thrilling journey and Nicola brings her characters to life, her narration is second to none. The characters are honest down to earth front line grafters, and her writing comes from a place of experience which makes it all the more worthwhile. Cari is a master of her craft and brings the reality of daily struggles experienced by dedicated underfunded NHS and police staff to her stories. This book is no exception. I felt emersed throughout. Recommend having a selection box within easy reach to accompany this book.

Another Cari corker

What a marvellous author CH is. The multi-cultural Britishness of it all!! The banter and sayings throughout are just perfect. "what's the matter with you? ..you look like nobody owns you" 😍 and other such joyful lines ...And NVVs delivery, accents and acting are second to none... that woman's got mad skills! Another flawless creation, thank you ladies xxx

What a cracking story! I read it first, then bought the audiobook.
Cari Hunter has excelled once more, with a gripping story set in the North of England, and a cast of down-to-Earth characters and the familiar minutiae of everyday life that brings such realism to her books.
The worst part? Having to wait for what I hope will be a follow-up!

She’s done it again!
