Can DI Clare Mackay unravel a dead man’s secrets?

Harry Richards, a local solicitor, is found in his car, throat slit. DI Clare Mackay is on the case. She soon learns that Harry was not the upstanding man he seemed to be. Finding the killer should be easy. Then the wife of one of Harry’s colleagues is discovered dead in her car, and Clare realises there is something more sinister at play…Can she find out who’s behind the murders before they turn their attention to her?

An utterly gripping addition to the bestselling crime series by much-loved Scottish author, Marion Todd. Prefer Marion Todd reading

I enjoy Marion Todd’s Clare Mackay series and this latest is no exception. But I am sorry that Marion Todd isn’t reading it, as she has the previous 6. As the author she knows her work inside out and has a calm delivery and voice that fits perfectly with her reassuring accent. With no disrespect to the new narrator, who I’m sure is doing her best, it’s not the same at all and something has been lost. Why someone decided to alter a really good format I’ve no idea, but I wish they’d left well alone.
I really have tried - but after hearing all the previous books nobody sounds like themselves any more (if that makes sense) and it’s all a bit breathless and jerky. I am going to return the audio version and read it on Kindle instead.

Shame about the narrator change

Love the series, especially with the author narrating the first 6 books
It’s such a pity that the last 2 books are narrated by someone else-it has spoilt it for me. I’m disappointed.

Pity about the new narrator

It was a good story from the start and a bit of a slow burner , that is not a criticism because it went on to be an excellent book, and the slow burner could only compliment the wonderful story that I couldn’t possibly have stopped listening to and missed sleep to finish but it was so worth it. An excellent book and Narrator, I’ll be looking out for more from this Author.

Everything that makes an excellent story .

I love these books and all the characters - the stories gallop along and the new narrator is excellent. Off to download my next fix.

Another gripping listen.
