💚 It does drag a bit in points and on the other hand there’s not enough development of characters, but I’d say the same of Wells, so…

SOUNDBITE
🎧 This is mostly told from the perspective of a 15 year old and Kevin T. Collins is not that. I think it would have been a more authentic perspective from a younger voice BUT there again, lots of older characters and shifting dialogues, which he does well. He is a very engaging performer overall.
🎧 About three quarters was very easy and morish. It lagged a bit towards the end, but remained very listenable.

Some interesting ideas but the execution is all very YA? Is it a YA novel? I'm not sure. I would probably class this as a good YA novel but a below average to average adult novel.
There were some good points made throughout and mostly appeared to be well researched. It's an easy, light read but I think it was all just a bit TOO easy. Both the sentence structure and exposition were written as it would be for a child. Everything had to be overexplained to the reader who couldn't possibly be trusted to bang two brain cells together and understand things all on their very ownyown.
It's not even like there was anything even verging on complex in the first place so I don't know what the author was at at all. Unless, as I said, it's a YA novel. That's the only thing that makes sense.
The dialogue was often a bit contrived and the "solutions" to the various problems range from being totally logical to "okaaaayyy don't you think that's a tad arbitrary?" to "where on earth did you pull that out of??!"
I also didn't believe the main character at all. He didn't seem to be a human being. His characteristics just seemed designed to fit scenarios rather than being a person in his own right. The soldier and the Russians were pure shooting, nuking stereotypes but at least you knew who they were.
And actually on the matter of the main character - No one calls themselves or other teenagers "teens" like that!! "I am just a teen" and "she was the prettiest teen I've ever seen." etc...
Every time I heard it I internally cringed for the author 🫥
And ah lads I just remembered the gorillas! The sapient gorilla! The aliens I could get on board with (😉), but that Lady gorilla one having full blown meaningful discussions with the humans??!! 😂😂😂
Why on earth was that even in the book like? It was completely inconsequential to the plot.

Loved the African setting and the way the author has made it seem so realistic. Interesting characters, drawn so well. The reader was great at making the different characters stand out and I liked the pace.
Excellent Find!
