31 Days follows up on ultrarunner Allie Bailey’s searingly honest autobiography There Is No Wall.
It takes the final chapter of that book which was the self-help rant you didn’t think you were buying and supercharges it, creating something relatable and tangible that you can actually take into your day-to-day life and make a lasting difference. While There Is No Wall clearly said running won’t save you, perhaps this book will, with its zero-bullsh*t approach to mindset mentoring, and tools and exercises that enable you to do the work and create incredible results.
Whatever it is you’re struggling with – running, career, relationship – Allie draws on her lived experience as an award-winning coach, runner, depressive and recovering alcoholic, to show you how you can change things in yourself that you didn’t think it was possible to change. And not just for one training block, one race or for a few weeks, but for the rest of your life.
Split into thirty-one easy-to-digest chapters – one a day – it is a handbook, a companion on a journey with no end. But be warned, this book contains no quick fixes – it is down to you to do the work.
It’s never too late to change, you’re not ‘just the way you are’, and it’s never too late to tell that doubting voice you have lived with for decades to kindly go f@*k itself.

If swearing isn’t your thing, this might not be for you. That said, I think you’d miss out on some powerful tools that can help not just with running but with life in general.
Allie Bailey doesn’t sugar coat things but what she says comes from a place of honesty and integrity and it’s never unkind.
Another highlight is that she narrates the audiobook herself, which adds real impact. Her delivery helps emphasise the points that matter most.
Frank and kind

The book is set up as a self help book and takes you through key areas to work on and provides worksheets (downloadable) to fill in along the way.
It helps with goal setting, consistency, getting the basics right, values, imposter syndrome and so much more. One of the few self help books to be helpful. Highly recommended and an enjoyable listen thanks to the authors reading style.

Initially I found the conversational and expletive heavy delivery of the book a bit of a barrier to getting into it, but I kept with it and on reflection it's actually one of the best things about this book. The honesty and frankness is just refreshing, in a world of bland guys banging on about doing hard things in so many running books. Allie's personality comes through.
I'm so pleased I came across this book as Allie has given me a lot to think about in terms of my own relationship with running and what motivates me. Really great and helpful book. Love it!
Not another boring book about running
