Surrey, 1986: Sent back in time after a lifetime trapped in a loveless marriage, Lucy Hart is determined to find the courage to take back control of her life.

In 2025, reeling from the death of her husband, Lucy must face the truth that she has wasted forty-five years with a man who never truly loved her. At his funeral, shocking revelations come to light, including affairs, a secret love child, and a will that tears her family apart.

Given the chance to return to the past, Lucy finds herself back in 1986, with two small children and a husband whose ambitions leave no room for hers.

This time, she refuses to play the dutiful wife and begins creating her own range of natural soaps and shampoos, an idea that soon blossoms into a thriving business. As success transforms her world, her marriage breaks down, and a new man enters her life, Lucy must decide how far she’s willing to go to secure her freedom.

Join Lucy on her uplifting journey in this time travel tale, full of romance, resilience, and reinvention.

1986 is part of the anthology series, A Year in the Life. Each book revisits a different aspect of life in the 1980s, and each story can be enjoyed standalone.

Yet another great story in one of my favourite time-travel series. Jason Ayres has done brilliant research once again, bringing 1986 vividly back to life. The sights, sounds, events and atmosphere of the year are captured so well that it feels like taking a trip back to the 1980s, with the added bonus of time travel!
Peter J. Matthews’ narration is simply superb. He takes an already great story and makes it even better, bringing the characters and the whole adventure to life.
Another very enjoyable addition to the series, I'm already looking forward to 1987.
I was kindly given a copy of the book by the narrator and leave this honest review.

Another good lighthearted time travel story. A few lines made me laugh that I wasn’t expecting to hear. Not sure about the gloating in revenge part for Lucy.

The latest in the series of 1980s books didn’t disappoint. The nostalgia of the era was everywhere to enjoy and the story appeared to be based in towns close to where I live which gave it even more of a reality in the memories.

I loved the characterisation of ‘Simon’ and the awful. ‘Roo’! Well done to Peter for capturing the characters. I could almost draw a picture !

The book had many great moments and I particularly liked the appearance of characters from previous books. They slotted in very nicely. I wonder if we will get to the origin of the bracelet as they are clearly in the same universe as the Time Bubble books. Maybe it’s an invention from Charlie or Josh as the subject of sending minds back in time was touched on in that series. Maybe the bracelet will end up saving the universe.

Anyway all I have to say is come on 1987. I’m looking forward to enjoying some more great stories and nostalgia from that year!

One again a superbly researched book. Well written and superbly narrated. A great story whether as a standalone or a part of the series. I refers back to the previous one, but is equally good as a stand alone. 5 stars in every respect as usual, this author is meticulous in his researchvand detail. This is what makes the whole experience so great.

another superb book

I liked Lucy’s path and the re introduction of a few old faces from the other books but I couldn’t quite believe how Simon changed so drastically in such a short space of time and how the divorce came through so quickly! I guess it’s fiction though!

Another enjoyable saga
