A king takes what is his, and she is mine.

Her scent drew me to her, but something deeper and more powerful told me she was mine. Something that would not be denied. Something that demanded I claim her then and there.

I took her the way a beast takes his mate. Roughly. Savagely. Without mercy or remorse.

She will run, and when she does, she will be punished, but it is not me that she fears. Every quivering, desperate climax reminds her that her body knows its master, and that terrifies her.

She knows I am not a gentle king, and she will scream for me as she learns her place.

Publisher's note: King's Mate includes spankings and rough, intense sexual scenes. If such material offends you, please don't buy this book.

This story painted an entirely new Shifters world for me away from other authors I have read so far, so it took me a little while to catch up, but once I had I was fully immersed and invested in the story and characters. The narrator did an excellent job pulling me into this futuristic and slightly dystopian setting, having so many different voices that each character became an individual.

The story is always 4-5 stars, because if I wouldn't like the story as ebook, I wouldn't listen to the audiobook. I can't listen to an audiobook without knowing the book, that's not possible for me.

The performance from the narrator is also very important for me. I can't listen to a lot, because my English as a non-native-speaker isn't so perfect to follow a whole story over hours, when the narrator speaks too fast or too sloppy. Normally I have to SEE the person, who is talking to me in English. It took me a little bit, to come into the narrator, but at the end, it worked. I only have to take a few breaks between. I'm just not yet finish with the book, I’m over the half, but I listen enough to give a review.

This is the first audiobook I’ve listened to from Cade and I have to say what a great job he has done. A brilliant performance for both the male and female voices. The storyline is great and the characters are demanding.
