Social Poetry

The title is Search Party, the idea being that we’re all out here looking for something, and my poems are my way of finding myself. A young black poet blending spoken word and rap; an inner city upbringing with a Cambridge education; a social consciousness with a satirical wit and infectious rhythm--George the Poet is the voice of a new generation. Search Party is a thought-provoking and deeply autobiographical collection.

Czeslaw Miosz, winner of the 1980 Nobel Prize for Literature, reflects upon poetry's testimony to the events of our tumultuous time. From the special perspectives of "my corner of Europe", a classical and Catholic education, a serious encounter with Marxism, and a life marked by journeys and exiles, Milosz has developed a sensibility at once warm and detached, flooded with specific memory yet never hermetic or provincial. Milosz addresses many of the major problems of contemporary poetry, beginning with the pessimism and negativism prompted by reductionist interpretations of man's animal origins.

In the Metamorphoses Ovid retells stories from the Greek myths, arranging them in roughly chronological order, from the origins of the world to his own times. His charming and graceful versions, full of life and interest, express his humanist approach, his feeling for pathos, and his endless curiosity and delight in human affairs. Each tale involves a transformation of some kind, and the whole collection provided a potent source of motifs and images for later art, especially the paintings, sculpture, and verse of the Renaissance.

Life is like poetry. It has many styles, messages, and dimensions. Poetry, like life, can be happy, sad, serious, comical, etc. Like life, poetry is action, motion, and movement. Time never stands still. Every second of our day is moving toward a predestined journey. This journey is poetry in motion.

Communication to our Lord and Savior holds many facets. Poetry is one way of expressing your emotions, concerns and desires. It has a way of revealing those emotions that many of us have a hard time expressing.This book is designed to touch the heart of God through your daily devotion and meditation specified through poetry. It is conveniently constructed into categories so that you can go right to the poem that is fitting to your situation.
