Something in the Blood Summary

Honey Driver runs a hotel in Bath. As boss, she's in charge one day and washing dishes the next - mundane, safe, boring. Then, one day, things change when she lands the job of liaising with the police on behalf of the Bath Hotels' Association.

No worries, she tells herself, surely it'll involve nothing more than the odd mugging or swindle. But before long, Bath's unlikely answer to Miss Marple is imagining herself as Honey Driver - five-star hotelier, world-famous beauty, and famous detective. When an American tourist disappears, Honey is sure it involves foul play. Then a body is found near the famous Pulteney Bridge, and the plot thickens!

When hotel owner and police liaison officer Honey Driver accompanies a friend on a ghost walk, the ghosts fail to appear, but one of the walkers is later found hanging from the rafters of an old shop. The supernatural has nothing to do with the murder, but it is connected to the past: the sinking of the Titanic and the international demand for old artefacts. Honey has two other big problems; she's being stalked by a man in wellies on a motorbike and her mother is threatening to move closer to her hotel.

A film crew has arrived in Bath to make a new film about the city's 18th century heroine, Jane Austen. To the satisfaction of hotel owner and police liaison officer Honey Driver, some of the visitors are staying at the Green River Hotel, bringing some welcome low-season business. Plus there's the thrilling possibility that Honey and her daughter Lindsay might be cast as extras. But then the film's star, the impossibly demanding Martyna Manderley, is found dead, and Honey finds she's landed her own starring role - as prime suspect.
