Tainted Ground Summary

Writer and some-time British agent Ingrid Langley is worried about her husband, Patrick. Since leaving the army, his attempts to find a new career are meeting with depressing failure. That is, until he receives an offer from the Home Office to join the police in a fast-track recruitment scheme for ex-servicemen and professionals. The idea seems a fine one, until Patrick is recruited at a higher rank than Detective Chief Inspector James Carrick, their family friend.

When a horrible murder takes place in the neighbourhood, pressure is on to solve the case quickly. But with tensions growing between James and Patrick, and Ingrid struggling to keep the peace, who will be the one to succeed?

Ingrid Langley isn’t pleased when her husband, Patrick Gillard, late of MI5 and now with the Serious Organized Crime Agency, is sent on assignment just days after the birth of their son. She has no time to dwell on it though, what with nursing a newborn, overseeing house renovations – and discovering a dead body in the Church vestry.
