Lost Letters of Lavender Lane

When Hazel Whitby discovers a decades-old letter hidden beneath the floorboards of her teahouse on Lavender Lane, she has no idea she’s about to uncover a quiet mystery that has lingered in her town for nearly thirty years.

A letter lost to time. A promise buried in snow. A second chance waiting to be claimed. When Hazel Whitby discovers an unaddressed envelope at the gate of the Garden of Goodwill, she assumes it’s just another forgotten object in a town full of quiet secrets. Inside is a pressed violet and a single haunting line: I never meant to leave. As Hazel follows the fragile trail of the letter’s origin, she uncovers a decades-old misunderstanding between two people separated by silence rather than choice. Lucia Barton left Willowbrook believing her final words would be found.

When a weathered diary tied with a faded blue ribbon appears in Willowbrook’s Garden of Goodwill, Hazel Whitby knows it was meant to be found. The entries inside—written in the summer of 1985—belong to a teenage girl who believed no one would remember her, or the boy who taught her how to skip stones and gave her pressed flowers as promises.

Some love stories don’t end. They wait. When Hazel Whitby purchases an old piano at a quiet Connecticut estate sale, she expects nothing more than a beautiful instrument for her apartment above the bookshop. Instead, she discovers dozens of hidden letters—written during the Vietnam War, bound with faded ribbon, and addressed to a man who never came home the same. As Hazel follows the trail left behind in the piano bench, she uncovers a decades-old love story shaped by war, silence, and the choices people make to survive.

She never sent the postcards. Every August fourteenth, for over forty years, Ruth Sears sat down and wrote to a man she met once… and never saw again. She wrote about her garden. Her son. The quiet shape of her life. She addressed every card. And mailed none of them. When Hazel Whitby finds a faded shoebox filled with these unsent postcards at a local estate sale, she expects a forgotten keepsake. What she finds instead is a story that never ended. As Hazel follows the trail across decades, she uncovers the man behind the name—Thomas Vane, a painter living quietly on the Rhode Island coast.
