"The Magical City of Al-Qamar" is an enchanting tale that transports listeners to a mystical land, where reality intertwines with magic, and destiny is written in the sands. Tariq finds himself in the lands of Al-Madina, and learns of the magic and wonders intertwined in the lands. Through his adventures he tries to seek an understanding of the peoples of this land and the role of magic. His perceptions are intertwined with fascinations some being illusion and some real, but hard to decipher which is which in the mysterious deserts of Al-Madina.

It’s 1865 and a band of renegade deserters left over from the American Civil War abduct newlywed Judith Johansen and head to the wilds of Rupert’s Land, soon to become Western Canada. They are about to find out that they have made a huge mistake. Judith is the granddaughter of Moses Munro, a wily old mountain man who survived as a trapper in the Rocky Mountains during the 1820s and ‘30s.

First Token is a hybrid novel and true to its title. The story is told in the cadence and pace of the 1950s. As comedic expression is a cardinal position on my compass, Token is infused with thoughtful wit. The novel’s delivery could be construed as a contradiction in terms; a stream of consciousness narrative can be navigable; the tributaries can seamlessly flow back into the river. Enchantment, disguised as fate, elevates the tale. The characters, including an orange tabby are embraceable and endearing.
