In the 23rd century, fossil fuels are almost exhausted, and Earth depends on energy from a swarm of solar-powered satellites. Conditions are harsh in the space stations that serve this network, and some of the crews rebel. They move away from Earth's orbit and build their own colonies, the "Seven Dwarfs", meant for life, not labor. The real beginning of the Space Age has come at last.

In the mid-21st century, UN Power is constructing solar power satellites in its lunar colonies. Aria arrives on the moon to become the first magistrate appointed there and soon sees hints of an underground movement, the "Coven", that opposes remote rule from Earth. UN Security fears labor unrest about working conditions, but the Coven’s plan is much more ambitious than anyone could have imagined.

In the movies, a hyperspace jump to a galaxy far away is an everyday affair. In colder reality, it takes an expedition from the solar system two millennia to traverse the 10 light years to the star Epsilon Eridani. A few centuries into the journey the fleet loses contact with Earth and drifts along in space as the loneliest human community of all time.

Three times did the fisherman's wife tell her husband to summon the magic flounder and demand an even finer home than the flounder had given her the last time. In the end, the flounder gave her all she really needed and returned her to the hovel from which she came. In this retelling of the story, a prophesying sybil, a priestess of Artemis installed by the goddess on the Isle of the Flounder, tells the queen of Samris she may have her finer palaces. But it was the sybil's priests, who put these words in her mouth.

A mouse who was on the spot on the night of the grand ball is not as taken as humans are with this classic fairy tale of mating success. You are a species that has lost touch with itself, he tells us. Your big brains have outgrown you. They have taken you into a world in which you are not really at home and made you strangers to yourselves there. Any other animal shows more common sense in its daily life than you humans do.

Let us have a fair hearing at last for the Twelfth Fairy who has for so long been unjustly accused of sending the Sleeping Beauty to oblivion on her 16th birthday. The Lady Melicia never denied that she played a key part in this unhappy affair but, in her defense, has a question for her accusers: Do you really believe in fairies? In this retelling of a classic fairy tale 12 fairies confer miraculous gifts as proof of God’s existence. Things go wrong when one of the 12 turns unbeliever and declares that fairy gifts are nonsense.

Christianity claims that a first century barefoot preacher was actually an incarnation of God, that he was resurrected after he was executed for insurrection, that he ascended to heaven and there intercedes with God the Father to forgive us our shortcomings and redeem us to eternal life.
