You are possessed. A being outside yourself has taken control of your mind, body, and soul. It commands you to do things against your will, and torments you with feelings of guilt and pain. This being is not a demon, or a ghost, though it might as well be. This being is an ideal. Your ideals, whether thrust upon you by society or adopted out of a sense of duty, your ideals put you in bondage and make your life miserable. They haunt your head, as sure as any spook could do.

In his most renowned work, Max Stirner makes a powerful philosophical assertion for radical egoism, rejecting the socially-focused perspectives of both mainstream ideologies and revolutionary movements in favor of an uncompromising individualism. Although often discussed through the lens of other philosophers, such as Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels—who famously critiqued it in The German Ideology—Stirners ideas resonate deeply on their own. This book invites readers to explore its lyrical prose and confront its provocative philosophical challenges, making it a timeless read that continues ...
