The Living Word is a daily devotional featuring Scripture and encouragement from Jeff and Dale of The Jenkins Institute. Each episode offers a thoughtful reading to coincide with the daily devotional guides from our annual devotional books. They are designed to help listeners begin or end their day grounded in God’s Word.

In Fit for the Pulpit, a host of preachers dispense comfort and counsel to their brothers in the trenches, men who often work in ministerial isolation as they seek to build up the body of Christ. Chris McCurley, the editor of this volume, has assembled ten different writers to cover a wide swath of material. In eleven chapters, McCurley and his colleagues manage to cover many of the areas wherein preachers need continual encouragement.

Your opportunity to stay in ministry and be effective is in direct proportion to several significant attitudes and actions. I am sure this list is not exhaustive but does reflect what we have observed. In writing this book we are not setting ourselves up as any sort of experts in ministry. In fact quite the opposite. Much of what we share here are lessons we've learned from our own mistakes. After 40+ years of local ministry each, we wanted to reveal a few things that we have observed and experienced that have helped us and others to have any degree of effectiveness.
