Edith Nesbit (Edith Bland,1858-1924) was an English author and poet. She authored or collaborated on more than 60 books of fiction for children, many of which have been adapted for film and television. She wrote tales of fantasy, magic, and misadventure in which children in normal circumstances are faced with extraordinary characters or events.

The full title is "The Ice Dragon, or Do as You Are Told" but, perhaps unsurprisingly, George and Jane do not do as they are told and find themselves at The North Pole and in the middle of a great adventure.

Wharton's grace with the language and her understanding of the human condition are beautifully presented in these stories that range from a mother's love for her son to a ghostly visitation.
