Kael and his friends, Gonter and Maida, continue the journey to find Kael’s family. Kael, his brother-in-spirit, Gonter, and Maida, the young girl who saved their lives, leave the Land of Fire and Ice and continue the journey in their ancient world to find Kael’s family. They have heard about the intriguing Walking River and cannot wait for their travels to begin. Together, they, along with Gonter’s wolf, Brota, form a strong group to face the challenges ahead as they meet strange creatures and learn new things from other clans.

The valley is in serious trouble. A drought threatens farmers, families, and wildlife. Another problem Jim is facing: kids tease him because he's the shortest boy in his class. Hurrying home from school one day, Jim falls into a rut. It's not an ordinary rut, it's a huge footprint! Jim is astonished to discover a giant boy who has wandered down from his snowy mountain home to visit the valley in distress. Both boys feel different and soon become friends.
