The Happy Prince and Other Tales is a collection of five stories first published in 1888. Oscar Wilde said of these stories that "they are studies in prose, put for Romance's sake into a fanciful form: meant partly for children, and partly for those who have kept the childlike faculties of wonder and joy, and who find in simplicity a subtle strangeness." The five stories in this collection are "The Happy Prince", "The Nightingale and the Rose", "The Selfish Giant", "The Devoted Friend", and "The Remarkable Rocket".

It is all to easy to be familiar with Oscar Wilde the aesthete, the limpid sophisticate ever ready with a witty epigram designed to both shock and stimulate. However, here in this set of short stories Wilde, at least partly, lays aside his barbs and is careful to not let cynicism cloud the parable like innocence of these tales. There is an undeniable purity in these tales, which Wilde’s simple, lyrical style beautifully enhances. Narrated by Simon Hester with original music.

The Spirit of the Bird and the Royal Prince is a book by the Colombian writer, Jaime Bedoya Martínez. The book, in epic poem form, describes the transformation of a bird into a prince and the effect this new life has on a kingdom. This story investigates several themes related to the virtues which man has lost as society’s developed into an industrial and consumerism focus. While the transformation of the bird into a boy can channel into several complex metaphors, it is clear that the writer’s basic intent is to use this narrative to point out the dysfunction of humanity.
