All the lines of fate have been pulling Edra Tendric to LA. It is the last place he wants to go, leaving his mate Inspector Jordan Kells in San Francisco to deal with a fractured mytho population and an increasingly tense political situation. Someone wanted Edra removed as Mytho Liaison, and they got their way. With the exposure of their relationship, Jordan has to negotiate the fallout at work and among the people he called friends.

Dragon shifter Edra has always lived to serve and protect—in ages past as a knight, and in the modern world as a mytho liaison to the San Francisco PD. Behind the scenes he safeguards the mythos community from scandal—and further human hatred. When the eggs of a rare greater dragon are stolen, Edra must find and return them before the mother razes the city.

Negotiations with the LA vampires have failed. Having survived the attempted razing of their enclave by the dragons, the vampires are now holding Jordan’s sister hostage and are demanding a unicorn for her safe return. There’s only one problem. Unicorns aren’t animals. They are wild magic best left alone. Jordan holds the media responsible for Katie’s capture. If they had stayed out of his private life, she would’ve been safe.

Dawson Hill is used to the routine and isolation of working on an oil platform in the North Sea. He’s woken up by what he thinks is an emergency drill, then the platform shudders and tilts like it’s about to fall into the sea… but the sea is gone. The oil platform is now on an island. And the island is inhabited by all kinds of beings. It soon becomes clear that rescue isn’t coming, and they are running out of food.

Eliza Scaggs (not Scraggsies, thank you very much) is tired of all the rumors about her. Sure, she’s looking a bit haggard as of late, but she’s been working herself to the bone on a secret government project to prove that she, the only woman in the wizard’s guild, belongs there. So, maybe she’s got some gray in her hair, but she’s not old, not old-old— and the only thing she’s made a pact with is her purveyor of rot brew tea. Okay, the pet monster thing is true, but Throat Ripper hasn’t caught anyone, not yet.

Sean Lloyd has given up on finding love. It’s easier to concentrate on his work as a mytho biologist than figure out people. But that was easier to believe in his twenties. Now his friends are getting engaged and planning weddings, and he’s only planning his next hook-up. He wants more, even if he isn’t sure what that looks like.

Jordan and Edra aren’t the only ones thinking about their wedding, and some people don’t want it to happen. The destruction of several Mythological Services buildings around the country has revealed there are still people who view the mythological refugees as something less than human, despite the law now recognizing them as equal. When someone decides to stop the wedding, Jordan and Edra need to act fast…but this isn’t a battle they are fighting alone.

The fallout of unicorn magic brings Jordan and Edra closer together. For Edra, the strengthened bond between them is exhilarating and terrifying, and everything he believed he’d never have again. But Jordan is struggling with defining what is him and what is Edra when he barely knows himself. When griffins descend on the city, killing several people, and then claim sanctuary from hunters, it’s up to Jordan and the rest of Mytho Investigations to uncover the truth before humans start calling for the griffins’ death.

For every problem Pan solves, he makes three more, but accidentally turning Noah–his only connection to magic and the man who has been helping him–into a selkie might be the worst. Now he needs to earn Noah’s trust, and Pan has no idea where to start. He’s a god; people are supposed to beg him for forgiveness and aid. Then a group of drak start following him around, thinking that he’ll be able to help them recover their ability to breathe fire. The last thing anyone needs is shapeshifting fire-breathing cats. But when they offer their prayers, Pan can’t refuse.

Ancient folklore and modern myth come together in these stories by author Craig Laurance Gidney. Here are found the struggles of a medieval Japanese monk seduced by a mischievous fairy, and a young slave who finds mystery deep within the briar patch of an antebellum plantation. Gidney offers a gay teen obsessed with his patron saint, Lena Horne, and, in the title story, an ailing tourist seeks escape at a distant shore but never reckons on encountering an African sea god. Rich, poetic, dark and disturbing, these are distinctive tales not soon forgotten.

Prue embarks on a long overdue fresh start at what feels like the beginning of the rest of her life. Before she can even take her first steps into this new life, reality takes a swing at her newfound peace, with the loss of someone larger than life.
