La desastrosa mañana de aquel septiembre de 1985 "la tierra que destruimos se hizo presente". Un fatídico terremoto demostró "hasta qué punto nos aborrece la tierra: / nos ve como insectos / torturadores que la roen por dentro". Su devastadora venganza puso en evidencia que "es el nombre profundo de la muerte". Los sobrevivientes "¿vamos a hacer / otra ciudad, otro país, otra vida? / De otra manera seguirá el derrumbe".
