Heidi, c'est l'histoire émouvante d'une petite orpheline suisse qui parvient à trouver le bonheur dans son paradis alpin et qui touche son entourage avec son grand cœur et sa noblesse morale.

First published in 1881, the subtitle of this book tells us that it was written “for children and those who love children”. Heidi, a 5-year-old orphan, is handed off by her young Aunt Dete to live with her grandfather in the Swiss Alps. Though her new life is foreign, Heidi soon falls in love with her grandfather, and he with her. They share a contented life of goat-herding. But when Grandfather refuses to allow Heidi to attend school in the small village below, quarrels ensue.

Heidi war gerade fünf Jahre alt, als sie zum ersten Mal den langen Fußweg vom Dorf Mayenfeld 'nauf auf den Berg geht. Da droben wohnte ihr Großvater, den alle Welt nur "Alp-Öhi" nannte. Zwei Ziegen teilten die Einsamkeit, und das Haus war einfach eingerichtet. Und doch war das Leben für Heidi voller Überraschungen und Entdeckungen. Ihr Freund, der Geißen-Peter, zeigte ihr dies, der Öhi das, bis Heidi im achten Jahr aus dem stillen Bergleben in die Großstadt Frankfurt kam. Ihre Tante Dete hatte bei reichen Leuten eine Unterkunft besorgt, die so gar nichts mehr mit dem Leben beim Öhi zu tun hatte.

Ein wundervollen Kinderhörspiel! Wirbelwind Hilja hat jede Menge wilder Ideen im Kopf. Sie füttert Piranhas im Zoo und veranstaltet zusammen mit der ganzen Nachbarschaft einen Weit- und Hochsprungwettbewerb. Und dann klettert sie sogar mit einem Klassenkameraden auf das Schuldach! Denn der hat behauptet, Mädchen wären nicht mutig. Von wegen – wenn das Abenteuer ruft, ist Hilja bereit!

Elle a eu douze ans cette année ; elle porte ses cheveux noirs tressés en deux grosses nattes qui battent l'air autour d'elle chaque fois qu'elle tourne la tête un peu brusquement, ce qui arrive souvent car elle n'a rien perdu de sa vivacité et ses yeux sont toujours aussi francs. Aujourd'hui, elle est un peu inquiète. Pourra-t-elle revenir l'année prochaine, ou bien, comme les fillettes du village, devra-t-elle descendre à Ragaz pour entrer en service ? Le grand-père et le docteur n'ont jamais parlé devant elle de son avenir.

Heidi doit partir au pensionnat de Lausanne. Elle y rencontre une bonne amie, Jamy. Mais la montagne lui manque.

Heidi a 3 enfants. Elle est mariée à Peter. Son amie de Lausanne doit arriver avec ses deux enfants (un garçon et une fille) Margareth-Rose, la petite fille est fragile car elle est asthmatique. Son séjour à la montagne devrait lui faire du bien.

Clara voudrait bien rendre visite à Heidi sur son alpage, mais elle est d'abord en trop mauvaise santé pour y aller. C'est donc le docteur, ami de M. Sesemann, qui fait le voyage jusqu'en Suisse. Heidi, qui lui est reconnaissante d'avoir permis son retour chez son grand-père, l'accueille avec joie et lui fait découvrir sa vie à la montagne.

The siblings make their way back home with the help of the many wild animals that they meet on their travels, from whom they learn much about life beyond the farm.
