Now wanted in the Five Kingdoms for being a void mage, Star arrives in the country of Rollada. Her plan? Figuring out just what is in the magical contract that binds her to her new familiar. A plan that swiftly goes up in smoke when Star and her friends accidentally stumble upon a royal assassination plot. Contracted to prevent the assassination, Star must find and capture the conspirators as well as deal with an unruly familiar, the mystery of her friend’s past, and a stalker who just won’t go away. The Princess in Chains is the second book in the The Void Mage Grimoires.

The Corin Valley massacre took everything from Star, and she hoped to never return to that place. Life, it seems, has other ideas. Six months after leaving Farlane, the unlikely alliance with the spellbinder Djihira finds Star in Corinda, Another of the Five Kingdoms. Even if her mere existence there is illegal, she’s determined to help Shade expose a blood mage. There’s just one small wrinkle, in order to get to the capitol, Star must pass through Corin Valley. The place she’s tried so hard to forget.

Leaving school can be hard when you have nowhere else to go. Because of this, Star had decided to become a mercenary for hire and have a life of adventure. But when her first mission leaves her without the ability to safely cast magic, she’s suddenly thrust into a journey no amount of schooling could have prepared her for. All she can do is rely on her sword and her new friends. All in the hope of finding a magical familiar who can prevent her from becoming addicted to the magic she spent years mastering. All the while trying to escape the people now hunting her down.
