Looking out across the rooftops of Hamilton City to the distant Kaimai Ranges and Maungatautari Mountain on New Year's Day 2017, Campbell Forlong had no idea that instead of just ticking off these two running challenges from his bucket list, something bigger was about to happen in his 52nd year. After he'd completed three random marathon runs on consecutive weekends, his brother Paul phoned. "I see you've run three marathons in three weeks–you planning to run 52 marathons in 52 weeks?" he asked, half joking. It was all the invitation Campbell needed.

I said it. I'm over 50. This is the first short book in the series, which is meant to offer subtle humor while nudging you toward improving your health through exercise. Technically, I am still a runner according to the verbal charter of the 1980s, which clearly states that once you are a runner in your youth you will remain a runner for the duration of your lifetime. I'd send you to the charter website, but there isn't one, so you'll just have to take my word for it. Even couch potatoes (who were runners in their youth) are still runners.

I tried everything. Changing shoes, changing nutrition, changing my running form and changing my training plan. I even prayed to the running gods! It didn't matter. Every time I'd bolt out the door for a run something new would hurt. I was a broken down, frustrated runner. At the time, the more things I changed, the more it felt like I was wasting my time. But slowly my running started to improve. My body felt better...and healthier. I got fitter...and I got faster.

The Buck Fifty is the funding machine that helps support 15 local high school chapters of Drug Free Clubs of America. This program has changed the culture in these schools as over 50% of these teens have volunteered to join and committed to living a drug free lifestyle. This 150-mile relay monster takes teams of 10 or 5 runners through four state/national parks, backcountry roads, and historic Chillicothe, Ohio. These are the inspirational stories behind the race and cause we've gathered since 2015.
