What does it mean to be REAL? pondered the Rabbit one day... Written in 1922, The Velveteen Rabbit, or How Toys Become Real, tells the enchanting story of a humble toy rabbit who embarks on a journey to understand life and love. This beloved tale marks the first childrens book by Margery Williams (1881 - 1944), who had previously penned works exclusively for adults. Over time, this touching narrative has transcended generations to become her most celebrated and cherished classic, captivating hearts of all ages. (Summary written by Marlo Dianne) It was by a sort of accident that The Velveteen Rabbit became the beginning of all the stories I have written since… By reflecting on toys and the love we give them, they come to life in our memories. Toys I cherished as a child—my almost forgotten Tubby, the rabbit, and Old Dobbin, the Skin Horse—along with those my children adored. -- Margery Williams
