  • EP 99 - Are You Following Jesus—or Just Practicing Religion?
    20 Oct 2026

Can good religious traditions actually becomebarriers to genuine faith?

Church isn’t the enemy. Scripture isn’t theenemy. Doctrine matters. Traditions can be beautiful.

But sometimes we become so committed toroutines, appearances, preferences, and “the way we’ve always done things” thatwe miss the God those things were meant to point us toward.

In Episode 99 of UNMASKED, Wesley Farnsworthexplores the difference between tradition, religion, and a genuine relationshipwith God.

Traditions like communion, baptism, hymns, andmeaningful church services can remind us of God’s faithfulness. The problemcomes when we protect traditions more fiercely than we pursue Jesus—or when ourmethods quietly become the mission.

    This episode explores:

    • Why tradition itself isn’t the enemy

    • What happens when church preferences becomesacred

    • Religion’s focus on appearances

    • Why Jesus challenged religious leaders

    • How spiritual masks develop

    • Why people can hide serious struggles inchurch

    • The difference between obedience and earningGod’s love

    • Rules, holiness, relationship, and grace

    • Spiritual comparison

    • Discernment versus defending personalpreference

    • External behavior versus hearttransformation

    • What healthy faith looks like

Wesley also connects this directly to theheart of UNMASKED.

Living unmasked requires honesty. But honestycan feel threatening when religious culture prioritizes appearances. If youhave to look like you have everything together, you may never admit you needhelp. If you believe God only accepts polished people, you can spend your wholelife polishing instead of healing.

Jesus never invited people to impress Him.

He invited them to follow Him.

If religion has wounded you, this episode alsooffers an important distinction: imperfect people and a perfect Savior are notthe same thing. Someone’s misuse of religion does not have to keep you from therelationship Jesus invites you into.

The episode closes with one question worthsitting with:

Is there anything in your faith you’re doingsimply because it’s what you’ve always done—without stopping to ask whether itis actually drawing you closer to Jesus?

  • EP 98 - She Became the Addict She Swore She’d Never Be
    15 Oct 2026

Content Note: The episode includes discussion of childhood sexual abuse, addiction, opioid misuse, suicidal thoughts and attempts, family trauma, and recovery.

Jennifer Chase grew up determined that addiction would never become her story.

She was the daughter and granddaughter of alcoholics. She experienced instability, shame, and childhood sexual abuse. Then, after a life-threatening brain tumor and surgery left her with chronic pain, prescribed opiates became the coping mechanism she says finally made her feel comfortable in her own skin.

    The addiction lasted 14 years.

Then Jennifer learned that her son had become addicted to the opiates in their home.

In Episode 98 of UNMASKED, Jennifer joins Wesley Farnsworth to talk about addiction from three perspectives: the child of an alcoholic, the person living in addiction, and the mother of a recovering addict.

Jennifer explains why, in her experience, “substance was always the solution to the problem,” and why sobriety alone could not heal the trauma, shame, and belief that she was fundamentally unlovable.

She shares how treatment, community, surrender, and faith changed her recovery—and why accountability continues years after the substance is gone.

We also explore the other side of addiction: loving someone you desperately want to save.

Jennifer discusses codependency, enabling, consequences, and boundaries. She explains why a boundary should protect your peace rather than manipulate someone else into changing, and why rescuing a loved one from every consequence can sometimes prolong the very problem you are trying to solve.

Finally, Jennifer shares how her relationship with God changed the way she sees herself and why healing required learning she could not do it alone.

  • EP 97 - Why Do Christians Eat Their Own?
    13 Oct 2026

Christians love to talk about grace—until someone we respect actually needs it.

A pastor falls. A worship leader fails. A Christian author has a moral failure. An artist’s sin becomes public. Suddenly books disappear from shelves, songs disappear from playlists, sermons are discarded, and everything that person ever did is viewed through the lens of their worst moment.

In Episode 97 of UNMASKED, Wesley Farnsworth asks a difficult question: Why are Christians sometimes so quick to eat their own?

This isn’t an argument for ignoring sin or protecting powerful people. Abuse should be confronted. Crimes can require legal consequences. Leaders may need to step down. Trust can be broken, boundaries can be necessary, and forgiveness does not automatically restore someone to leadership.

    Accountability matters.

But accountability and annihilation are not the same thing.

Wesley wrestles with what happens when Christians move beyond addressing someone’s failure and begin treating that failure as their permanent identity. If a worship song genuinely pointed people toward Jesus before its writer failed, did the truth in the song change? If a Christian book helped people understand God, did every true thing in its pages become false when its author’s failure became public?

And what does our response teach the people who are still hiding?

The person quietly struggling with addiction is watching. The pastor struggling privately is watching. The person who crossed a line and is terrified to tell anyone is watching. We tell people to bring struggles into the light—but if they see Christians destroy someone whose failure becomes public, they may learn that secrecy feels safer than honesty.

    This episode explores:

    • The difference between accountability and condemnation

    • Why Christian leaders are still human

    • The danger of putting people on spiritual pedestals

    • Whether a messenger’s failure automatically invalidates a true message

    • Why we love redemption stories after the messy part is over

    • The difference between hypocrisy and humanity

    • How our response to public failure affects people who are still hiding

    • What restoration can look like without automatically restoring someone’s platform

    • How Jesus models truth and grace together

Then Wesley asks the question that makes the conversation personal: What if your worst moment became public tomorrow? Would you want accountability? Yes. But would you want your worst chapter to become your permanent name?

Grace does not mean sin doesn’t matter. It means failure does not have to have the final word.
