  • Episode 25 - Fighters Mindset
    Oct 12 2021

    When it comes to a fighters mindset you usually think of the likes of Mike Tyson, Mayweather Jr, Ali basically anyone who has reached the highest level possible in their chosen field.

    One of the first things that needs to be trained is remembering that the ratio of being successful is that you need to be mentally prepared, in fact the ratio is 9:1 basically 90% is Mentality and 10% is Physical. So what does this mean?

    Well you have be prepared for the demands required to ensure that no stone has been left unturned, this will include exploring;

    1) Focus and Clarity - This takes maturity to master, a great fighter is able to paint a picture which is clear and razor sharp like your most recent 4K TV, this is inside and outside of the ring/cage. The cognitive training required takes patience and control to ensure that a fighter stays on track when it comes to training, keeping reflexes sharp and adapt on the spot when required. This will not only benefit you as a fighter but life in general.

    2) Mental Toughness - This commonly comes from adversities that a fighter may have faced growing up, during adulthood or any other time in life that required an individual to face trauma head on which as a result "toughened" them up. However, this is not to say that you have to experience trauma to an extent where you may suffer from PTSD, situation like this would require professional support to ensure the negative experiences do not weaken you as triggers if left alone could come back to haunt you.

    3) Confidence and Self-Esteem - Being a fighter requires confidence, you have trained your arse off to become who you are, not the average Joe that has a 9-5 and then lifts a few pints with the lads and then feel they can take on the world due to "Dutch Courage". As a fighter, a Martial Artist you know what you have trained in will result in inflicting a can of whoop ass to anyone that crosses that line. With that being said, getting into fights with the average Joe doesn't test your skills, so why not do this in the ring/cage, against someone who has trained just as much as you have to test who is the best!

    4) Mindfulness - Being alert with yourself is key, before you can comprehend what is happening around you one must feel at ease with their breathing, clarity in their mind so that their energies are not focused on negative elements which could distract you as a fighter. There is so much depth that you can explore when looking at Mindfulness so be sure you get yourself a good coach to help with this aspect.

    5) Fight or Flight - How often do you hear this phrase? When shit hits the fan and it isn't going your way are you able to adjust your game plan and stay and fight or do you switch off and feel the need to flight or quit? This takes rounds and rounds of sparring with high calibre fighters who can pressure your state of mind to train you to forget about even thinking about taking flight!

    6) Technique - You could be gifted by being as strong as an Ox but what happens when talent fails? Hard work prevails right? What does this mean? Well think about Fury vs Wilder, you have the technical superior vs the knockout artist but when the skillset does not match or beat the technical skill then you will burn out sooner or later. Having a great IQ in your sport will allow you to beat those that are 1 dimensional.

  • Episode 24 - Protein Whey
    Oct 5 2021

    Episode 24 has the host Pac and Harks talking about protein whey and their own experience of taking such supplements. In this episode they had a few samples to try courtesy of Taurus Health and Fitness (Leicester) which included a plant based protein whey.

    There are three types of protein whey that are available as a supplement;

    Whey protein concentrate - this contains more nutrients than any other type of whey, due to how it is manufactured

    Whey protein isolate - is usually quicker to digest than whey protein concentrate or whey protein hydrolysate and is usually more suitable for people that are lactose intolerance. Most of the fat and carbohydrate content has been removed making it a great source of getting protein into your diet.

    Whey protein hydrolysate - Also referred to as 'Hydro whey' is designed to break down proteins into a state that makes them easier for your body to absorb and to be used.

    Some of our highly recommended Protein brands are as follows;

    #1 Optimum Nutrition - Gold Standard Whey Protein; Based on Quality and Taste

    #2 Gaspari Nutrition - MyoFusion Advanced Protein; Based on Taste and Digestive Enzymes

    #3 Ghost - Whey Protein; Based on Taste and Amazing Flavours!

    Sample most impressed with:

    Reflex Nutrition - Whey Pro On the Go; Based on Taste, Consistency and Quality.

    Still unsure which Protein Whey is for you? Head on over to see the guys at Taurus (206 Narborough Rd, Leicester LE3 0DL) and they will look after you with expert knowledge and advice that will best suit your needs!
